Swan Lake @ Royal Albert Hall

Bit of a different way to spend a Wednesday evening, Sarah invited me to see Swan Lake at the Royal Albert Hall!

This was my first trip to the Royal Albert Hall and it is SPECTACULAR! Look at the size of it!

It was pretty packed out as well - given the weather yesterday you can imagine how warm it was!

So, the story of Swan Lake (we had to look it up as we did get a bit confused), in a nutshell. Prince is told by parents to marry, gets annoyed so goes off into the woods, he sees loads of swans and is about to shoot them (for some reason) when he sees them transform into women - turns out some evil guy cursed a princess (I think) and her lady friends to be swans during the day but women at night. Prince falls in love with swan princess (Odette) but evil guy replaces her with his own daughter, the black swan, disguised as Odette, Prince is convinced but then realises Odette is being held prisoner (she sends him a vision) - big climatic ending and love triumphs all...which I didn't think was how it ended based on the Black Swan film - but hey.

It was a really beautiful ballet, music is amazing and the dancing is so impressive. I completely recommend it to anyone who enjoys dance.

    1. You can get quite cheap tickets I think! Ours were only £28 - there's so much they've got coming up there as well...a Pixar night! I'm def going to try to get tickets for that!

    1. See, I was sure it had a sad ending!! Cos in Black Swan they say at the end of Swan Lake the white swan kills herself - but this ended with a happy kiss so - confused!

  3. I think there are many alternatives. But in the original the prince and Odette walk into the lake together and drown themselves, thus breaking the spell and freeing all the other swans. In some the prince kills the evil person but is fatally wounded in the process, leaving the swan heartbroken and so she kills herself. So many alternative endings! But to have a happy kiss seems to be a soppy way out!

    1. That explains a lot! Yeah, not to be melancholy but I would have preferred a more depressing ending!
