Kabaddi

Heard of Kabaddi? Neither had I! In a quest to do something a bit different, Ben suggested we get tickets to a Kabaddi league game...he explained it to me as kind of like Bulldog so, intrigued, we booked some tickets.

We didn't really realise how big a deal this game was, you see, Kabaddi is a traditional Indian game, and this was the first time they were taking the World League to London to raise it's international profile. Having now witnessed it first hand, I have to admit it is super fun to watch, though it took me and Ben a little while to understand the rules. Here's my attempt to explain. You have two teams of 'defenders' (I don't know the technical terms so bear with me), made up of four people who sit on each side of the court, divided by a line.

In turn, each team sends in a Raider (similarly to Bulldog).

The four defenders have to stay linked as the raider approaches them.

And then the first one the raider touches, or the first defender to engage the raider, must prevent the raider tapping over the line again. Which results in a lot of wrestling.

The funniest ones are when the defender wraps themselves around the radiers leg on their way back to the line and the raider just ends up dragging them, haha!

At the end they had a Bollywood performer on, who is apparently quite well known!

It was definitely a bit different for a Saturday's entertainment - if the games were going to be on again in London I think we'd definitely get tickets!
